Livescribe Evernote Files

Last week, I blogged about my recent experiences using the Livescribe Pen for assessment. I mentioned that I could send my pencasts to Evernote. I love using Evernote for organizing my assessment and evaluation of students, so this link to Livescribe is a big bonus for me. This week though, I tried out something that I’ve never done before. I started using tags. When I uploaded my pencasts and sent them to Evernote, I tagged them with key words regarding what I was assessing and/or whom I was assessing. Wow! I wish that I did this before.

Now my pencasts are organized and easily accessible too. When looking at next steps for students and/or writing report cards, I can quickly find the pencasts that I want and then locate the information that I want as well. It would be interesting to use the Livescribe Pen for self-assessment and peer-assessment, and then tag these pencasts accordingly, so that I can cross-reference what’s said in them with my own data. Will the information be the same? Will it be different? How will this influence my teaching practices?

If others out there have used the Livescribe Pen for this type of assessment tracking before, I’d love to hear about your experiences. What worked? What didn’t? What would you do differently now?

Aviva, you are AMAZING! I love how you embrace technology, but you are truly using it as a tool to improve teaching and learning–including yours. Genius!

Wow! Thanks Linda! I really appreciate that. At first, I never really thought of the Livescribe Pen for assessment, and now, I see some tremendous possibilities. I wish that I had tried this out earlier.

I just received a Livescribe Pen for taking a tech workshop (6hrs). I plan on using it for both assessments and pen casting in my 2nd grade classroom. I would love to hear/see how you are using it.

Aviva – just fantastic that you are starting to use the Livescribe with Evernote more. Two of my all time favourite tools – and as you have demonstrated here -> there is so much potential to integrate and improve these tools with our assessment practices. Thanks for sharing

Great stuff Aviva. Thanks for sharing. I’ve had the honour of working with a secondary french teacher who has just recently decided to use the livescribe pen for descriptive feedback in addition to collecting student thinking. She is using evernote to store all of her electronic pieces (images, documents, audio, livescribe) of student work and her feedback. She has a notebook for each student and then shares this with the student and parents so that they are all on the same page. If there is a SERT working with the student, they can have access as well. At the end of the course, students can select pieces they wish to include in a portfolio and reflect on these. I’m very excited to see how this goes and to get feedback from parents/students on the sharing notebooks piece. Evernote and Livescribe make great partners :)
